Online user testing

A combination of questionnaire methods and usability testing, online testing allows you to identify customer subjective response, as well as indicate some areas of concern in usability.

Testers are recruited with email, screened to match your target group, and then asked to perform tasks and answer questions using your web site.

We suggest 50 testers per customer segment.

Benefits

Allows opportunity for a questionnaire (for demographic and brand response questions) along with usage tasks.

Allows analysis of click patterns and time on pages/tasks which can be related to user tasks (unlike in standard web logs)

As a complement to traditional usability testing: provides a method to quantify results found in usability testing or (if done in advance) to formulate hypotheses which can then be tested in usability testing.

Offers more information about usability than simple online questionnaires can provide

Limitations

Does not allow detailed understanding of user behavior (because users must voluntarily type all comments)

Causes of complex usability problems cannot be reliably understood without usability testing
